President Obama’s poll numbers are rising with the economy, but a sudden spike in gas prices could be the Achilles’ heel in his re-election bid.
Over the past 12 months, the average price of gasoline has risen from an average of $3.19 per gallon to $3.61, threatening the pace of the nation’s burgeoning economic recovery.
Prices have already gone up 25 cents a gallon since Jan. 1, and experts say they could top $4 a gallon by Memorial Day, just as millions of Americans prepare to hit the roads for summer vacation.
